CHATEAU VERCHAUS

In Ardèche, the Château Verchaus, a former Lafarge family property, overlooks the cement plant and is home to an artists’ collective. Below, the parent plant of the multinational group continues to carve through the mountain. In this place floats a vision of the old days of the town of Le Teil, made of dust, smoke and the “familistère”, a housing complex that sheltered the families of workers employed by the plant.
Seeking to evoke the past, I chose photogravure as my technique and as my material, cement, which adheres to the print and reflects the history of this place.
